Padro Color Family: Bay and Modifiers

This is a hopefully helpful quide to anyone that wants to design anything with a bay color as base. Slight variations on these examples above are of course accepted


BAY: Ee Aa or EE Aa or Ee AA or EE AA

1. Amber Champagne
definition: bay base + champagne
appearance: per rule, champagne gives the coat a lighter and more yellowish tint. mustard colored body with brown hair, legs and muzzle.
genotype: E_ A_ Ch_

2. Bay
definition: plain bay base (no other modifiers present)
appearance: redbrown body with black hair, legs and muzzle. 
genotype: E_ A_

3. Bay Roan
definition: bay base + roaning
appearance: plain bay base with lightning and dulling of color on the middle part of the body.
genotype: E_ A_ R_

4. Bay Dun
definition: bay base + dun markings
appearance: bay base is slightly lighter/duller than normal bay base, but in Padro, normal base is also accepted. Dun markings that are required; dorsal stripe and leg barring. Dun markings that are optional: Head stripes and torso/neck striping
genotype: E_ A_ D_

5. Silver Bay
definition: bay base + silver
appearance: Silver turns the mane and tail into a middle grey to white color, instead of black. Can also lighten the topline of the coat, similar to grey. Can have a major effect on silver seal bay.
genotype: E_ A_ Z_

6. Buckskin
definition: bay base + single cream
appearance: lightens bay base considerably, does not change the color of legs, hair and muzzle. Usually a high contrast between light and dark colors. 
genotype: E_ A_ nCr

7. Seal Bay
definition: more extreme form of bay
appearance: In appearance, seal bay horses seem to be in between black and bay horses. The overall body is very dark brown to blackish color, with lighter brown around the belly, chest, throat, eyes and muzzle. Still has black hair, muzzle and legs.
genotype: E_ At_

8. Wild Bay
definition: less extreme form of bay
appearance: In appearance, wild bay horses seem to be in between chestnut and bay horses. The overall body is usually a lighter form (although normal bay base is also accepted) with interrupted pointing. (black on legs and muzzle)
genotype: E_A+_

9. Pangare Bay
definition: bay + pangare
appearance: normal bay base with considerably lighter underside of the horse. Can affect legs. Does not influence the black hair, legs and muzzle.
genotype: E_ A_ P_

10. Sooty Bay
definition: bay + sooty
appearance: normal bay base with a much darker topline. Sooty may cause dappling.
genotype: E_ A_ Sty_
